Adults are Terribly Irresponsible

I don’t think I’ve seen this many human beings collectively fail to obey otherwise simple orders, and in so doing threaten the health and safety of their entire community. Baffling.

You know what? Adults suck.

No, don’t get all offended at me. You do! Not you specifically, maybe, but generally as a group of people, adults suck. This pandemic has proven, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that adults all absolutely and irrevocably suck at doing the things they expect their children to do. Honestly, if I was still a child, I’d be pretty offended.

Actually no, I’m still offended. But the point stands: kids of the world, you deserve to be angry.

Look, I’m not saying that being an adult is easy and I’m not saying that we should blindly follow every rule society imposes on us without question. I’m not going to say that we shouldn’t think critically about society and the various rules and regulations that society insists we all should follow, and I’m especially not going to say it right now because this pandemic has also proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that society is intentionally rigged to be an unfair rat race that wants to threaten every human being participating into compliance or else. That’s a discussion for a different post, though.

But I am just saying that if you’re the kind of person who expects children to follow all the rules they’re presented with, especially those rules you claim to be for their own safety, then maybe you could just stop for thirty fucking seconds and follow some very important rules yourself when you get given them. The whole “stay at home” order doesn’t suddenly mean “vacation time” in the same way that when you tell your kids “no more chocolate” you don’t actually mean “no more chocolate but help yourself to any other candy in the house that isn’t specifically chocolate.” You shameful hypocrites.

Could you just, you know, do us all a favour? Could you please spend five minutes finding the energy to rub your two little braincells together and realise that you’re being asked to stay at home for the safety and welfare of your community? Quarantine might suck, but it’s necessary. It is definitely not the time to act like the petulant children you normally like to chastise so much, and throw responsibility to the wind because “well how bad can it be? It’s just a flu!” You’ve all spent the last three years yelling about the millennial generation and how they’re supposedly being irresponsible by killing the napkin industry and eating avocado toast, and now after all of that bitching about how irresponsible you thought they were you want to fly in the face of common decency and regard for your fellow human beings and find as many people to cough on as is humanly possible?

Honestly.

Even if the whole avocado toast thing was true - it isn’t, by the way. It isn’t true and has never been true, nor have the other ten dozen allegations made about my generation ever been true - but even if they were true, at least we responsibly go get our vaccines and obey quarantine orders and look out for both ourselves and the health of our fellow human beings.
